The Mikey Network Donates a Phillips HeartStart AED at Old Mill Marina

 

The Mikey Network (www.mikeynetwork.com) has chosen Old Mill Marina as a recipient of a Phillips HeartStart AED! What started out as a six month plan to fundraise enough money to install an AED turned into a ten day chore! A big thank you to Roger Hennig, a Kawagama Cottager, who's company Action First Aid got us started on this project, and who loaned a Phillips HeartStart AED while we were fundraising.

 

Included in the donation from the Mikey Network is training on the AED unit for all Old Mill Marina's staff. While the AED will be based in the store here at the marina, it will be available to respond to any emergencies on Kawagama Lake, and given the fact that there are two volunteer firefighters on staff at Old Mill, this unit will definitely be traveling around the lake when required.

 

An AED is used to treat victims of sudden cardiac arrest, who are not responsive and not breathing normally. This unit will treat the most common cause of sudden cardiac arrest by delivering a shock to the heart. Coupled with CPR, the HeartStart helps until emergency medical professionals arrive.

 

As well, Old Mill Marina has information and brochures available on HeartStart Home Defibrillators. Available through Action First Aid and Roger Hennig (a Kawagama Cottager), these units are designed for a home or cottage environment. Every minute counts in the case of sudden cardiac arrest, and a HeartStart Home Defibrillator is easy to use, safe, and reliable.

 

 

Midsummer Princecraft Deck Boat Sale!

 

Old Mill Marina is marking all in stock deck boats down for a midsummer sale. Buy any of the three deck boats we have in stock and ready to go for dealer cost! SeaDoo Port Installed on Fuel Docks!

 

As part of our commitment to the Clean Marine Program, Old Mill Marina is pleased to announce the installation of a RhinoPort on our fuel docks. This floating personal watercraft port is intended to allow PWCs to safely and securely dock for refueling, minimizing the risks of any fuel being spilled into the lake during refueling. The RhinoPort is installed on the west side of the fuel docks, very close to shore (near the new dock with the kayaks and tubes on display).

Aviva Water Toys Are Here!

 

The Aviva line of water toys is back for another summer! From tubes to trampolines, banana boats to floating rock walls, and slides to swimming rafts, Old Mill Marina has the products that will help create hours of fun and entertainment at the cottage! The new dock built on the west side of the gas docks has our expanded display of Paluski Kayaks and Canoes as well as the Aviva line up of inflatable products. Be sure to visit the beach in front of the Walisser house at the marina to see (and perhaps test out!) the new slide, swimming raft, and the SplashZone trampoline. Emily, Andrew and Laurie would be happy to have visitors at their water park!

 

 

 

 

Old Mill Marina Internet Wireless Access Point Now Live!

 

Old Mill Marina now has a free wireless internet access point. Broadcast from the gas shack, the access point covers the main floating docks, plus most of the covered slips. Your smartphone or laptop simply needs to connect to the wireless network named Old Mill Hot-Spot and you will quickly be up and running on the internet. With a number of strategically placed Muskoka Chairs, you can find a comfortable spot to enjoy a Timothy's Coffee and catch up on email!

 

We have high speed satellite service for our internet access here at the marina. XplorNet, for anyone who is interested. While a decent service, it has a very serious restriction on the amount of data that can be uploaded before their "Traffic Management Policies" kick in. TMP means that they cut our internet speed down substantially to penalize us for overloading the satellite. For this reason, we are restricting the upload capabilities of our free internet access point. You will find that uploads will be very slow - this is not a good location for you to upload the latest YouTube video! However, for browsing, downloads, and emails, you should find the speeds to be far superior to dial up!

 

 

Marine Fuel Questions & Answers

 

Once again, customers are asking what grade of fuel does Old Mill Marina sell, and does it contain ethanol? At this time, Old Mill has switched from premium 91 octane gas to regular 87 octane gas with the end of the snowmobile season. Petro Canada confirms that again this year, there is no ethanol in the fuel being supplied to the Petro Canada branded marinas throughout Muskoka and Haliburton regions. Currently, our fuel price is $1.23 a litre.

Fishing Regulations Summary: 

 

Fishing licenses are available for purchase at Old Mill Marina.  (Fishing licenses only - no hunting licenses are sold at the marina.)  The Ontario Recreational Fishing Regulations Summary magazine is available for pick up at Old Mill Marina. 

 

On Kawagama Lake and Bear Lake:

 

Lake Trout

  • Season open January 1 through September 30.

  • Slot Size restriction - must be less than 40 cm/15.7 in or more than 55 cm/21.7 in. 

  • Limit of 2 per day with Sport License or 1 per day with Conservation License.

  • Only one line used when angling through the ice.

 

Bass

  • Season open from fourth Saturday in June through November 30.

  • Limit of 6 per day with Sport License or 2 per day with Conservation License.

Kimbal Lake is a Fish Sanctuary.  Fishing is only permitted from the third Saturday in May through to September 30.  No fishing from October 1 through the Friday before the third Saturday in May.  Lake Trout on Kimbal Lake have the same Slot Size restriction as Kawagama Lake.

 

Clean Marine Program

 

Old Mill Marina is proud to announce that we have joined the Ontario Marine Operator’s Association Clean Marine Eco-Rating Environmental Program.

 

The goal of the Clean Marina Program is to reduce and prevent water, air and land pollution from recreational boating activities in Ontario and across Canada. The program has adopted a three-pronged approach to achieve this goal, namely;

  • Promote the manufacture, distribution and use of Clean Marine products;

  • Promote Clean Marine ideas by increasing public awareness;

  • Promote the concept that marinas voluntarily adopt the Clean Marine practices.

This initiative entails a multi-year commitment on Old Mill Marina’s part. We underwent an audit of our current practices and continue to work with the Clean Marine program to adopt “best practices” of the industry. You will likely notice few obvious differences in the level of service delivered, but we will keep you informed as we make changes.
